Vettel and Ferrari shine in Hungary

Sebastian Vettel won the 46th victory of his career at the Hungarian GP in F1, his second after 2015 on the Hungaroring route. Despite a steering problem forcing him to turn the wheel to the left to stay in a straight line, the pole-sitter of the Budapest event managed to keep the advantage to beat his teammate Kimi Räikkönen to sign his 4th success of the season and his first since the Monaco Grand Prix.

Kimi Räikkönen threatened his German teammate for victory, adopting a faster pace at the end of the first stint, but an early call to the pits added to the slowdown caused by Paul di Resta (Williams) forced the 2007 world champion to settle for second place.

Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) tried to attack the SF70Hs after having benefited from team instructions by taking an advantage over his teammate without forcing Valtteri Bottas, but the three-time world champion kept his word by letting the Finn regain his position at the finish line.

Max Verstappen (Red Bull) completes the top five and would have been able to play for the podium without a 10s stop & go inflicted for hitting his teammate Daniel Ricciardo in turn 3 of the first lap. The Australian retired with a punctured radiator.

McLaren places its two cars in the points with Fernando Alonso 6th and Stoffel Vandoorne completing the top ten behind Carlos Sainz Jr. (Toro Rosso) and the Force India of Sergio Pérez and Esteban Ocon.

Paul di Resta, Felipe Massa's replacement in Hungary, retired at the end of the race after moving towards the back of the peloton. The list of abandonments is completed by Nico Hulkenberg (Renault) and Romain Grosjean (Haas) who had to stop at the side of the track due to a loose wheel.

Sebastian Vettel now has a 14-point lead over Lewis Hamilton heading into the summer break. F1 will resume its rights with the Belgian GP played on August 27.
