Vettel: “Ferrari has always been a dream”

Carried by a Mercedes above the rest, Lewis Hamilton has every chance of winning a seventh world championship title this season, and equaling Michael Schumacher. The Briton is also five victories away from the ex-driver's record Ferrari.

The current spearhead of the reds, Sebastian Vettel, will not have the opportunity to slow him down. The Ferrari is out of form this season and the German driver is pushed towards the exit. Heartbreaking.

“I was hoping to take a few championships away from Lewis, so that Michael's record would hold a little longer. Today, we are out of shooting range to try to block it” he regrets at the microphone of Sky Sport.

Beyond the symbol that the record constitutes, the situation refers to the gap between Schumacher and Vettel, the two German prodigies of the Formula 1, which has been compared since the beginnings of Vettel.

Both won at a very young age in a private team, Benetton and RedBull, before aiming bigger. Vettel makes no secret of it, Michael Schumacher is his idol, and he joined Ferrari in 2015 to follow in his footsteps, to the end.

“Ferrari has always been a dream, greatly inspired by my childhood, by Michael in the red car… He inspired me and he still inspires me because I think he is the best of all time. »

But Vettel failed. Regarding Schumacher and his personal goal. “ I think I wanted it (his adventure with Ferrari) to work for myself, more than for Michael.

Looking back, my mission, my goal was to win a championship and we didn't do it. So from this point of view, we failed. But we had a few really good years, some highlights and some great races. So I don't regret anything. »

The German driver says he wants to finish his story with Ferrari, but he does not hesitate to already take stock. The situation of the Scuderia and its words indicate that its dream in red is now written in the past.
