Vettel: “I was on top of myself during the last laps”

Sebastian Vettel ends nearly two years without a victory for the Team Ferrari by winning the Malaysian GP at Sepang for the 4th time. By benefiting from an excellent strategy from its team and a car economical with his tires, the quadruple world champion remained out of reach of the Mercedes de Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg while maintaining a lead of around ten seconds over the Briton.

« I was on top of myself during the last laps. I thought when I looked at the bodywork that I was going to win with a red car! Then I forced myself not to think about it anymore because I was afraid of missing the next turn.”, recognized the new star of the Scuderia.

“This is my first victory in over a year,” underlined the German whose last success dates back to the 2013 Brazilian GP. “I missed the champagne and the first step of the podium. It’s great to be back after a difficult season last year where I couldn’t get the car to work. The balance suits me better this year and it’s the same for Kimi (Räikkönen). »

The Scuderia can be proud of its weekend since Kimi Räikkönen finished 4th after suffering a puncture at the start of the race.
