Vettel unlucky at Marina Bay

Starting on pole at the Singapore Grand Prix last year, Sebastian Vettel this time will have to start from the last position. The pilot of the Team Ferrari, which hoped to be at the front of the Marina Bay grid, saw its hopes dashed following a suspension problem during Q1.

The four-time world champion tried to achieve a sufficient time to advance to the second qualifying session, but the damage to the SF16-H was too great for the German to take off from last place.

“I found myself riding with three wheels touching the ground and I couldn't go any faster, explained Sebastian Vettel. All is not yet lost for this weekend because the race will be very long and we could benefit from the safety cars. We will also have a number of new sets of tires, but it is certainly not an ideal situation. »

Sebastian Vettel does not seem to have any hard feelings against his team who decided to leave him on the track despite his mechanical problem.

“I wanted to return to the pits earlier, but the team decided to leave me on track, confirmed the Ferrari driver. We didn't have time to repair the car anyway. Despite everything, I am very disappointed. »

His teammate Kimi Räikkönen took fifth place, almost a second behind the pole achieved by Nico Rosberg.
