Vettel: “The increase in weight is not going in the right direction! »

The pilot Ferrari is shared ! While he is satisfied that the drivers were invited to express their feelings about the current car at various meetings and that they were questioned by the legislator on what the current car should be car F1 2021, he seems to regret that they were not invited to the vote.

“We didn’t have a say, he says. We have no right to vote, no power. Being invited to certain meetings was, in my opinion, very important because we had the opportunity to express our feelings about the current car and to say what it is missing. Of all the bodies represented at these meetings, that of the pilots was the most neutral because its sole interest was that of sport. Our contribution was certainly appreciated, but now let’s see how things will evolve…”

While he welcomes the publication of the regulations in 2021, he expects it to go further because, obviously, certain points concern him...

“We have set out the targets to be achieved and we will see the result when we drive these 2021 single-seaters for the first time, he says. We will see how much slower they will be, how much freedom the teams will have to develop them and everything else. It would be inappropriate to say the least to judge today. You have to wait even if the increase in weight is not going in the right direction. This is the general opinion that emerges among the pilots and that I share. Single-seaters are already very heavy today, and will be even heavier. We must see… "

See, his teammate Charles Leclerc wants too.

“The car has a more aggressive look, announces the Monegasque, but we drivers always want to go as fast as possible and I hope that we will gain a little performance without losing the car's ability to race; which is the big problem right now. It's very frustrating to know that you are faster but you can't overtake. I hope the 2021 cars will be better from this point of view and help solve the problem. On the other hand, the extra weight will not help. 25 kilos more is not good for overheating tires and, from a driving point of view, the lighter you are, the better you feel in the car and the faster you go. But hey, everything is always a matter of compromise between the different parameters and you have to judge on the spot... In any case, that's how it is now! »
