Vettel: “The car was fast but I wasn’t”

Sebastian Vettel like the other drivers, had to get his bearings on the Paul-Ricard circuit which welcomes the return of the F1 In France. The pilot of the Team Ferrari was behind, only in fifth place, more than a second behind the benchmark set by Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), even finishing more than two tenths behind his teammate Kimi Räikkönen.

“It’s not the most exciting track. The route is still quite technical and it is sometimes difficult to find the right trajectory. I struggled quite a bit during these two sessions, although it seemed to me that I was doing better on the long stints by lining up the laps. The car was fast, but I wasn't. However, I remain convinced that the car has more potential than what we have seen”, recognized the four-time world champion.

The Ferrari SF71Hs seemed more in the running on the long runs, but the priority for the Scuderia is now to improve the performance of its F1 cars on a flying lap.

“We are behind on a timed lap, confirmed the German. I don't know about long stints. But it should be fine if we save a little time. I wasn't able to set a good time today. »

Sebastian Vettel has regained control of the Championship for a point ahead of Lewis Hamilton after returning to victory at the Canadian GP earlier in the month. However, Mercedes now hasan engine evolution that can benefit the W09s.
