Sebastian Vettel ranked less than 4 tenths from the pole Lewis Hamilton at the Austrian GP, but the four-time world champion seemed to think he could be closer to the Mercedes in qualifying after leading the tests. The German could also have benefited from the errors made by the two drivers of the star-studded team, but the performance of the W06 Hybrid was too high for its SF15-T.
“I thought once again we would have a say, but unfortunately they were too quick.”, regretted Sebastian Vettel. “We were well prepared after the trials. Q1 was complicated for us… The single-seaters powered by Mercedes seem capable of improving their performance if necessary when we see the two drivers in front (Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg). This is also the case for Williams which was much faster than in testing. »
Kimi Räikkönen, Sebastian Vettel's teammate, is condemned to a comeback race starting from 14th row. The Finn notably took advantage of the drivers’ penalties Red Bull et McLaren.
