Vettel maintains the suspense

At the start of the race, Sebastian Vettel got the best start, keeping his advantage over Jarno Trulli. The Italian, if he does not manage to take the lead, even loses his second place, to the benefit of Lewis Hamilton, very effective at the start with its SREC.

While Sebastian Vettel prances in the lead, his teammate Mark Webber experiences a slightly different start to the race. Starting from the pitlane, the Australian had to return to his pit three times in the first minutes of the race to adjust his car, which he has not driven since it was overhauled after the third free practice session.

Another driver does not live the Grand Prix of his dreams, Sébastien Buemi. While he has been very fast since the start of the weekend, the Swiss has not been able to materialize the excellent dispositions of his Toro Rosso, neither in qualifying by making a mistake, nor in the race by missing the start. He won't even end up giving up.

At the front, Sebastian Vettel is in the lead and the first refuelings change nothing. Little by little, the German is opening up a significant gap on Lewis Hamilton. While Heikki Kovalainen catches Adrian Sutil when the latter tries to overtake him. On the side of Renault, the first refueling only arrives after halfway, Romain Grosjean et Fernando Alonso having left for a one-stop race.

Lewis Hamilton, second and apparently deprived of SREC, however tries to open up a significant gap on Jarno Trulli, third, to keep his place after the second round of refueling. When the Briton stops in his pit, he has the three seconds lead his team requested. But Jarno Trulli took advantage of his light car to string together fast laps. His very short stop, a few laps later, allowed him to restart in second position, ahead of Lewis Hamilton. Meanwhile, Sebastian Vettel is well established in first position.

As we head towards the quiet end of the race, Jaime Alguersuari loses control of his car and ends his race in a wall of tires, causing the safety car to come out. The positions are then fixed but the planned restart allows certain drivers to hope to gain a few places. When the safety car returns, everyone is ready, Kimi Räikkönen tries to overtake Lewis Hamilton for the third step of the podium. A little further on, Robert Kubica tries to get past Jenson Button to get into the points. But, ultimately, everyone leaves it there.

Quant à Lewis Hamilton, il permet à McLaren to compete Ferrari for third place in the constructors' championship.

Among the Brawn GP drivers, the seventh place of Rubens Barrichello and the eighth of Jenson Button are not worrying, as the leads in the two championships were comfortable. Despite everything, in the driver rankings, everything is still possible. With two races remaining, Jenson Button is fourteen points ahead of Rubens Barrichello and sixteen points ahead of Sebastian Vettel.
