Vettel didn't think he would do much better in Baku

Sebastian Vettel had a disappointing qualifying performance at the Azerbaijan GP in Baku. The Championship leader finished Q3 in 4th place, just over a tenth behind his teammate Kimi Räikkönen who will start alongside him on the second row. His day got off to a bad start as a hydraulic problem kept him in the pits during the last practice session, forcing the Team Ferrari to replace its Power Unit with an old one used at the start of the season for qualifying.

“The result is correct, but we are obviously not completely satisfied, admits Sebastian Vettel. The morning's tests didn't help, but that's no excuse. We've done enough laps. »

Sebastian Vettel was especially upset by the strong return of Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton having set the lap record more than a second ahead of the Ferrari driver.

“Everyone was surprised by Mercedes' progress, underlined Sebastian Vettel. We must be careful not to rely too much on this. You can easily save a lot of time if you are comfortable with the car on a circuit like this. Our position is not ideal, but we are confident about our race pace. »
