Vettel: “We deserve this result”

On Saturday, in qualifying, Red Bull had confirmed that his RB6 was very efficient on one lap, signing a third consecutive pole position. But this time, the author was not Sebastian Vettel but Mark Webber. Beaten by his teammate, the German did not panic and took control of the race from the first turn.

“In qualifying, Mark totally deserved his pole, affirms the young German. For me, the most important thing was to get a good start. I was patient and tried not to spin my wheels. It was the right thing to do. Then there was a long sprint towards the first corner where I took the slipstream from Mark's car and was able to do a rope dive. But among teammates we are always more careful, it would be ridiculous to hang in front of all the television cameras. I think we both made sure to respect each other. During the race, Mark was behind me and kept putting pressure on me, pushing me to make mistakes. There were times when he was faster than me, and other times it was the other way around. But in the end, when you're leading, you can afford to manage your tires, set your own pace and control the person behind. »

Unlucky in Bahrain then in Melbourne, the 2009 runner-up this time had nothing to complain about with his RB6, which proved to be as reliable as it was efficient.

“I was really happy with how my car behaved and prayed that it would last for the remaining 20 laps,” said Vettel. I will say that we proved that our car can do well when everything is working perfectly. The failures of the previous two races were due to bad luck. »

Now third in the championship, the Red Bull driver is not getting excited:

?We were able to see how quickly things can change from one race to the next. We were in good shape last weekend, and we deserved this result, especially after the first two races. It?s good to be back. Even if we don?t need this motivation in a team where everyone is motivated. »

Red Bull struck a big blow last weekend, although helped by poor choices in qualifying Ferrari et McLaren. With three poles and now a victory, the RB6 rocket is sure to start giving bad nights to the bosses of Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes.
