Vettel: “We are closer than expected”

By approaching to almost two tenths of Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) during the United States Grand Prix qualifying in Austin (Texas), Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) has reversed a hitherto very negative trend for the Team. A spin and a chassis change prevented the Reds from carrying out free practice. No relay in race condition was completed.

Sebastian Vettel was relieved to have placed his car alongside his rival for the title on the starting grid. “I think we can be satisfied with this result”, he conceded. “We had some problems on Friday, which made us get off to a relatively slow start. I didn't feel comfortable behind the wheel at all, something was wrong. The mechanics did an exemplary job during the night” to repair the car.

Because of this truncated day, the German had to find his feet in the middle of the qualifying session. “I didn't find the rhythm from the start. I had some difficulties with certain corners, but during the last lap, I turned a corner. In fact, we are closer than expected. »

Concerning his chances of world crown, Sebastian Vettel begins to know his speech by heart, he who must make up 59 points to Lewis Hamilton “We have to win, and then see what can happen. Of course, we are not in a desirable position, but we still have a chance. The car is capable of winning the next races, it was already capable of doing so in the last three rounds, but that did not materialize”, he admits.
