Sebastian Vettel: “I hope we can show what we’re worth”

After a relatively difficult first year of adaptation at Aston Martin, Sebastian Vettel seems ready to go back into battle. At 34, the four-time world champion is closer to retirement than to his debut, but his motivation still remains intact.

« This year will be a big test for us, underlines the former Ferrari. We'll see how good we are, because like I said last year, we couldn't prove anything, we were focused on 2022 with little update on our 2021 car. Today we we are dealing with new regulations, new cars, and I hope we can show what we are worth and what we can produce. »

If the entry into force of the new technical regulations could give him hope for 2022, Sebastian Vettel preferred to take a grain of salt when discussing Aston Martin's objectives. For the German, no one is yet able to say where his car while the first tests have not even taken place.

« From a driving point of view, we will have to adapt to the new cars. The feeling is clearly different when you pilot it from the simulator, explains the four-time world champion. Afterwards, as far as pure objectives are concerned, it will depend on where we are as a team. I'm not going to say that we want to fight for victories and podiums without having seen our car race. We have no idea what is good and what is not, like everyone else. So at this point in time, I have no expectations. We will have a first idea when we have completed a few laps and spent some time on the track. The objectives will then arise from our potential. One of them will be to show this year that we are a hard-working structure, capable of making a good car from the start, or making it progress throughout the season. And why not both ! (Laughs). »

We will therefore have to wait to find out a little more about Aston Martin's objectives for this 2022 campaign. One thing is certain, the Gaydon team hopes to return to the leading pack, thus improving its 7th place among Manufacturers in 2021 .
