Vettel propels RB7 to pole

This is no surprise to anyone. Sebastien's pole Hag only confirmed the superiority of the Red Bull interview a few hours earlier. The reigning world champion posted the best performance of the session in 1’23”529, faster than his pole position last year (1’23”919). Lewis Hamilton finds himself ahead of Mark Webber, but relegated to 0”886, a real abyss. But this is not enough to draw conclusions. The qualification showed the good health of the McLaren after a chaotic winter to say the least (Hamilton is second, Button 4th). THE Ferrari seemed a little below the level at which we expected them: Fernando Alonso will start 5th, Felipe Massa 8th. As for Lotus-Renault, Vitaly Petrov (6th) could well play the referees on Sunday.

At Mercedes, Nico Rosberg (7th) saves face for the German team. Michael Schumacher was knocked out in Q2, unable to reach the fateful threshold of 10th place. Same observation for Nick Heidfeld, eliminated in Q3. Robert Kubica's replacement seems to have paid the price for a risky strategy regarding the use of soft tires at Lotus-Renault.

As could be expected, the HRT team's single-seaters remained in the abyss of the rankings. Vitantonio Liuzzi and Narain Karthikeyan are even below the threshold of 107% of the best qualifying time, set at 1’31”266. HRT should therefore not start the race tomorrow.
