Vettel gets the Brawn

As usual, the qualifying session got off to a flying start, and the times were beaten at each pass during the first minutes. Fisichella and Sutil, who came out first, were at the forefront. But their times were quickly taken over by Räikkönen, then Trulli, Nakajima, Massa, Rosberg, Hag? The pilot Red Bull then improves again, setting a reference time which will hold throughout the first qualifying phase (Q1). In five laps, with a time of 1:27:330, Vettel is the fastest. In the final seconds of Q1, Hamilton fails to enter the Top 15. The Briton will once again have to start at the back of the grid this Sunday. Same sanction for subscribers to this first cart: Piquet, Buemi, Fisichella and Bourdais stop there.

In Q2, the Brawn GP, in ambush until then, finally wake up. Barrichello took the best time, before Button took the lead. But Vettel, determined to prove that Red Bull can come back on the Brawn, once again sets a time that will no longer be beaten, in 1:27:016. Kubica managed to climb into the Top 10, not his teammate Heidfeld, eliminated in Q2, just like Nakajima, Glock, Kovalainen and Sutil. Alonso, author of a good relay, snatches his qualification at the last minute.

Sebastian Vettel, faster during the first two phases of the session, is only looking for one thing: pole position, in order to start at the head of the Turkish GP, ahead of the Brawn GP. He quickly achieved a very good time but the final assault took the best time away from him. His teammate Mark Webber won but it was Jenson Button who once again stunned the paddock, coming out of his hiding place at the best moment. But Vettel has not said his last word. And, in a last effort, he comes to snatch this pole to which he holds so dear. After a difficult weekend in Monaco, Sebastian Vettel once again stands out as the main outsider for the Brawn. Vettel – Button – Barrichello, a trio which only confirms the results of the first races of the season.
