Total victory for Montezemolo

The standoff between FIA and FOTA turned to the advantage of the latter, the team association. An association led by Luca di Montezemolo, president of Ferrari. The strong man of the only stable to have never left the Formula 1 was best placed to play this role. The “game” which lasted for many weeks between FOTA and FIA was above all a big bluff. Ferrari claimed to be able to do without Formula 1, while the latter claimed to be able to do without Ferrari. By entering the 2010 championship and obtaining satisfaction with FOTA's demands, the Italian team has emerged strengthened from this conflict.

Luca di Montezemolo quickly congratulated himself on this double victory. “ My satisfaction is to see that all our requests have been accepted », declared the boss of Ferrari and president of FOTA after the world council. He returned to these requirements in detail: “ We wanted to be right on three things: that F1 remains F1 and not F3 ; that there be no dictator but a consultation, a choice of rules approved and not imposed; that each team be consulted and have a voice. » As if relieved after this long standoff with the FIA authorities, Luca di Montezemolo thinks he has done the hardest part: “ Now we have stability of the rules until 2013. »
