This is an unexpected announcement, to say the least: Williams made official this Monday the arrival of Victor Martins in its academy. The Frenchman, champion of Formula 3 in 2022, wore the colors ofAlpine until the end of last year, when he completed his second season of Formula 2 in seventh place in the ranking.
The ART GP rider, who will be competing in his third season with the French team in the antechamber of the Formula 1, lost the support ofAlpine in favor of Franco Colapinto, Paul Aron, Ryo Hirakawa and Kush Maini, all four named reserve drivers for the upcoming season. Due to a lack of space for him, the native of Quincy-sous-Sénart (Essonne) seemed set to spend the year without the support of a Formula 1 team, but Williams attracted him to everyone's surprise.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the Williams Racing Driver Academy! It’s a new chapter for me, but my goal remains the same: to push my limits, both as a person and as a driver, and make it to Formula 1.” promises Victor Martins. “Williams is an iconic team with an incredible history, and I am confident it is the best place to help me achieve my goals. This year, my full focus will be on winning the Formula 2 Drivers’ Championship with ART Grand Prix and making the most of this opportunity with the Driver Academy, both on and off the track. I look forward to working with the entire Williams team as we embark on this new journey together.”

A new step for Martins in his Formula 1 dream
Victor Martins becomes the second French driver in the Williams academy, joining Alessandro Giusti, who is making his debut in F3 this season. The 23-year-old will join another Williams protégé on the F2 grid: Luke Browning, who is competing with Hitech. "We are delighted to welcome Victor to the Williams Racing Driver Academy. He has repeatedly demonstrated his talent and championship-winning ability." says Williams sporting director Sven Smeets. “We will continue to support Victor’s development, both on and off the track, within the Academy and look forward to working with him in 2025.”
Martins will make his first turns with Williams as part of a TPC contested at Monza this weekend alongside Luke Browning. The two young men will take the wheel of the FW45, the car entered in the 2023 Formula 1 season.

It is better to be in the Williams sector that the Grove team uses (latest example with Colapinto) than in that ofAlpine where only dollars count! In any case, Brille A Tort doesn't resort to it because it prefers to steal from others rather than train...

Great news for Victor, finally in a team that isn't afraid to promote its drivers in F1

Clever. Like that, in the future, Alpine may consider him for a reserve pilot position since she prefers pilots from other academies to her own.
