Video. Best of radio communications from Australia to Hungary

Broadcast by the TV production of the grand prizes of Formula 1, the radio exchanges between the driver and his track engineer are used to mainly inform the driver about the appearance of the race, the state of his car, refine or modify the strategy. In short, it is a very rigorous and often austere field. However, sometimes pilots can come out of their reserve to launch tirades that make viewers laugh or smile. Here is a selection from the first 12 races of the season, from the Australian Grand Prix in March to the Hungarian Grand Prix at the end of July.

Australia
Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull), 45th lap, behind Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari:
“Remember to tell us how you want to approach the last part of the race. Do you want to attack on each turn or rest and attack again?
(Ricciardo) – I don’t want to let him breathe! »

Bahrain
Pierre Gasly (Toro Rosso), 4th at the finish:
" Amazing ! Amazing ! Good job guys ! Grazie a tutti! Fantastic work! Thanks guys! Now we can fight! »

China
Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari), 43rd lap, hang on:
« (Verstappen) Er, he (Hag) locked the wheels and veered very suddenly.
(Vettel) – I don’t think there is a need to say much. »

Azerbaijan
Fernando Alonso (McLaren), hooking up at the start:
“Okay, need to get back to the pits. Which guy (Sirotkin) stupid ! He closed the door (...) Amazing. You pay attention to turn 1, then turn 2. F***** they are stupid! »

Spain
Fernando Alonso, 43rd lap:
“You really need to stop talking to me every time you overtake! »

Monaco
Christian Horner on arrival:
" Amazing ! You did a fantastic job today. This is exactly like what he did Schumacher in 1995 and it’s a fair return for 2016 (where Ricciardo lost the victory due to a botched pit stop). Give Prince Albert a “shoey”! »

Canada
Sebastian Vettel, 69th lap:
“Tell them thatwe must not wave the checkered flag when the race is not yet over. »

France
Fernando Alonso, 40rd lap:
“Dude, I have no brakes, no tires, we're out of points... try something, but I don't really care. »

Austria
Romain Grosjean (Haas), 4th at the finish:
« 4th place, 4th place!
(Grosjean) –Woohoo! When you see the condition of the rear tires, my guy! I'm sure they're ugly, with blister (blisters) like I've never seen! Finally I give you what you deserve. »

Great Britain
Fernando Alonso, fighting with Kevin Magnussen (Haas)
“What I see from Magnussen, I have never seen in my life! He pushes me through turn 7, turn 11 and 12. (...) At turn 7 it was pretty obvious. I had to go on the grass. It’s ridiculous, the FIA, ridiculous! »

Germany
Kimi Räikkönen, lap 39:
“Kimi, it’s Jock (Clear, engineer). You know you gotta take care of your tires, both cars (with Vettel) must do it. You are on different strategies and we wouldn't want you to slow down Seb'. THANKS.
(Räikkönen) – Uh… I don’t… Sorry but… Can you be frank? I don't know what you want me to do?
– Lose as little time as possible obviously but wherever you can, Seb’ is capable of going faster but he damages his tires and so do you. We need to preserve the tires.
– Do you want me to… let him pass? Actually tell me! »

Hungary
Fernando Alonso, qualifying:
“New intermediate or maxi rain tires?
(Alonso) – I think we should go back to the garage and see the weather. We can go outside with the maxi rain but if we are 25 seconds slower, it's useless driving. We need to improve on our 11th place.
– Ok Fernando, if we do this we would only have time to do one lap.
– I don’t know man, put whatever tires you want.
(...) Even if we put on a rocket, we would be 11th! »
