It will remain the highlight of the adventure McLaren for Daniel Ricciardo. The victory during the Italian Grand Prix, at Monza on September 12, 2021, was one of the only moments of glory for the Australian within the British team. Left on the front line alongside his former teammate Max Verstappen, the “Honey Badger” had an excellent start and found himself in the lead after the first chicane. He then took advantage of the clash between Verstappen and Hamilton to secure his first place, ahead of the other McLaren of Lando Norris.
With this Italian success, Daniel Ricciardo ended a 9-year drought without victories for the McLaren team. Before that, the last one dates back to the Brazilian Grand Prix, in 2012. At the same time, the Woking team signed the only double of the 2021 season. The only brightening in a very dark epic for the Australian, who will leave McLaren through the back door at the end of the 2022 season.
