Villeneuve prepares his return

Jacques Villeneuve has not been made official in any stable F1 for next season but, betting on a positive outcome of his negotiations, the Canadian has resumed training in Austria. The 1997 world champion is getting a physical overhaul, alongside Dr Erwin Göllner.

« I found Erwin because I need to be ready to get back behind the wheel as soon as possible, Villeneuve explained to RueFrontenac.com. He put me back into the same routine I did when I was in F1. I am in better shape than when I resumed training before going to Renault (in 2004). Maybe it's motocross that I started doing or my normal training, but either way, it's encouraging. »

This season, the Canadian showed up in the paddock several times to establish contacts with different teams. If nothing is done, Jacques Villeneuve is confident about the positive outcome of the discussions started. “ Nothing is settled, but I really like the direction things are taking. Do you really think I would have come here to suffer, in closed retreat, if I didn't think things were progressing well? »

Jacques Villeneuve therefore began extensive physical training, in order to be able to regain the physical form suitable for driving a Formula 1 car. Fortunately, Erwin hasn't put me through sauna training yet, confides Villeneuve, laughing. For now, I'm preparing for winter testing, so it will be cool. However, when the preparation for Bahrain begins, I know that I will not escape it! »
