Villeneuve wants to buy an F1 team

Jacques Villeneuve does not abandon his project to find the Formula 1 and clings to it at all costs. After the abandonment at the start of the year of the Stefan GP project of which he was to be a part, after the FIA's decision not to retain the Villeneuve-Durango team - nor any other - for 2011, the 1997 World Champion has now the project of buying an existing team, which was his first idea before joining forces with Durango.

« We return to our original plan, which had become our plan B, that is to say the buyout of one of the teams already in place, explains Villeneuve to our Canadian colleagues from Rue Frontenac. This will allow us to still put in place the solid structure that we had assembled and to work with the sponsors and investors who trusted us. »

It is therefore one of the small teams which seem to interest the French-speaking driver, who knows however that this project will not be easy to implement, financially or structurally. “ It will probably cost a little more and we have to make sure we have free rein with a possible bought team. We don't want to be stuck with associates we wouldn't have chosen. We will also have to look at the contracts that are in place so as not to interfere with our plans. For example, we have a lot of confidence in our car design. We want to be able to use it, not have an old design already in place imposed on us. »

Jacques Villeneuve has therefore not said his last word, despite the FIA's refusal to select a thirteenth team for the next F1 season. But time is running out and the World Champion will have to complete the possible file as quickly as possible, in order to be able to prepare as best as possible, if necessary, for the next Formula 1 season.
