Virgin will expand its tank

The new teams continue to learn from their car as the testing sessions progress. Virgin Racing thus noted that the VR01's tank was too small to contain the fuel necessary to compete in certain Grands Prix. An impression noted for a long time but confirmed in Bahrain. The FIA ​​has agreed that Virgin review the design of its car.

« It became obvious during pre-season testing and then our first race in Bahrain that our tank capacity is insufficient. », Says Virgin Racing technical director, Nick Virth. “ If we do not resolve this defect, it may become a problem in certain circumstances. » The change being major, it is subject to the approval of the FIA, which accepted this modification, which should appear during the Spanish Grand Prix (May 7-9).

« We thank the FIA ​​for allowing us this change, continues Wirth. At the time the reservoir design was finalized in June 2009, its capacity was determined by a number of factors, some of which have since changed. This is why we need to increase the capacity of our reservoir. »
