Here's the best driver of the 2024 season...according to the drivers themselves

There is not only the team directors who were able to establish their ranking of the best driver of the 2024 season in Formula 1. As every year, the drivers were also able to take part in the exercise by electing the ten best drivers of the year, on the same basis as the ranking established by the Team Principal. The vote was carried out by secret ballot, with each driver giving his list of the 10 best drivers in the championship. Each driver is then awarded scores based on the current F1 points system, from 25 for the first to 1 for the tenth. And unsurprisingly, the results are quite similar…with some changes, however.

Unlike the ranking established by the team directors, Formula 1 did not give the number of points obtained, but simply the order in the standings. It is logically the quadruple world champion Max Verstappen who was voted the best driver of 2024 by the drivers themselves. The podium is completed by his two closest rivals in the championship this season, namely Lando Norris et Charles Leclerc, both of which gain two positions compared to the ranking established in 2023.

It is beyond the podium that the rankings made by the team principals and the drivers differ. Voted 6th best driver by the Team Principals, George Russell obtained 4th place with the drivers' vote, ahead of Oscar piastri et Carlos Sainz. Same story for Pierre Gasly, much better regarded by the drivers than by the team managers: the Frenchman was voted 7th best driver of the year by the drivers themselves (compared to 10th for the team managers, the biggest difference between the two rankings).

Conversely, according to the pilots, Lewis Hamilton was only the 10th best driver on the grid this season, when the Team Principals had placed him 7th for this 2024 season. The Briton is also the driver who has lost the most places compared to the ranking established by the drivers in 2023.
