Webber: “Conservative choices”

The gap is small between the McLaren and Red Bull? But you will start on hard tires. Does this give you confidence?
“We expected to face the high-performance McLarens. Lewis did a very good lap even though he had different tires. We will both be on the first row at the start with opposing options. I think our tires will be more consistent? We'll see how it goes at the start of the race. »

Don't you fear that Lewis Hamilton take advantage of a track with little grip and soft tires to escape?
“Our cars are very sensitive to track conditions, especially the tires. All the drivers were surprised by the lack of grip during the first free practice sessions. We felt like we were riding on a wet track when it was dry. Over the course of the tests, the grip progressed with the deposit of rubber. We are a little in the unknown regarding the condition of the track during the Grand Prix. We will see how the tires behave. The bets are open. Maybe we made a bad choice, maybe the right one. We'll see tomorrow. »

And don't you fear the entry of the safety car at the start of the race?
“There is a long history of safety cars on this circuit. We know this and we made the decision to run on hard tires knowing this statistic. The fact is that we are not trying to win a single race. We need very, very good results all year round. It is sometimes necessary to make conservative choices to enjoy a better Sunday. It will be an interesting Grand Prix. »
