Webber wins, Button champion

Jenson Button is world champion, after a race where the Briton did everything possible to secure the world crown. As for Rubens Barrichello, who started on pole and wanted to catch up with his teammate, he was the victim of a bad strategy and a puncture.

When the lights went out, Rubens Barrichello set off perfectly, just like Mark Webber and especially Kimi Räikkönen. The Finn took advantage of his SREC to overtake Jarno Trulli and threaten Adrian Sutil. The two men touch each other and the pilot Ferrari manages to pass. Despite everything, the Finn suffers from a damaged front wing.

Adrian Sutil, désormais quatrième, est menacé par Jarno Trulli. Le pilote Toyota, craignant un coup de volant de l?Allemand mord sur le bord de piste et part en travers, percutant la car Force India. Fernando Alonso arrives at the wrong place, at the wrong time and collides with Adrian Sutil. The three men retire and, on the side of the track, Jarno Trulli comes to shout at Adrian Sutil.

The yellow flag is waved, the safety car is out and this triple retirement suits many drivers. On the other hand, it does not suit Rubens Barrichello, who wanted to take advantage of the first laps to escape by taking advantage of his low fuel load. Above all, the Brazilian, who wanted to get back on Jenson Button at the head of the world championship, to see the Briton get closer thanks to this first lap.

After coming out of the safety car, Button moved up to the top 8, wishing to secure his world champion title from Interlagos. But he found himself stuck behind Kamui Koabayashi, who made a magnificent start for his first race in Formula 1.

At the front, Rubens Barrichello took advantage of the lightness of his car to take off, ahead of Mark Webber, Robert Kubica, Nico Rosberg and Sébastien Buemi. But the Brazilian had to stop quickly to refuel and went back into traffic, leaving first place to Mark Weeber.

The Australian continues the fast laps and widens the gap at the front of the race, allowing him to secure his first place. Far behind, Sebastian Vettel begins its slow climb, betting on a one-stop race due to its heavy fuel load.

Rubens Barrichello would also like to start his comeback but the Brazilian lost a lot of time in traffic before the majority of the field returned to the pits. The Brazilian can only take over from Robert Kubica.

Starting from the rear, Lewis Hamilton took advantage of an aggressive strategy allowing him to move back into the peloton, and into the points. After the second salvo of supplies, the Briton can even climb among the first. He even overtakes Rubens Barriochello to grab a place on the podium.

The Brazilian is no longer there. He who wanted to win to maintain the suspense for the award of the world champion title is losing everything. Jenson Button having moved up to sixth position, the Brazilian knows that the Briton is securing the world title even before the last Grand Prix. Barrichello was even struck by fate, having to return to the pits due to a puncture. He leaves in eighth place for the final laps.

If Mark Webber is well established at the head of the race, it is Jenson Button who is on display at the end of the race, heading towards a world champion title that everyone wanted to steal from him, including Sebastian Vettel.

Having started heavily loaded, the German wanted to get back to the front. But his only refueling, mid-race, saw his mechanics put on new hard tires, indicating that a new stop was going to be made to put on the soft tires. After this second stop, Sebastian Vettel managed to restart in front of Jenson Button to take fourth place. But, despite this very good result, the German having started from 15th position, “Baby Schumi” failed in his mission to maintain the suspense for the last Grand Prix.

At the end of 71 laps, Mark Webber is ahead of Robert Kubica, Lewis Hamilton, Sébastian Vettel, Jenson Button, Kimi Räikkönen, Sébastien Buemi and Rubens Barrichello.

Brawn GP celebrates when Jenson Button crosses the finish line: the Briton is world champion and, as a bonus, the team is champion in the constructors' standings.
