Mark Webber is a big contender for the Monaco Grand Prix. After winning in 2010 and 2012, the Australian knows the secret to winning in the Principality. At the end of the first day of testing, the Red Bull driver set the fifth time (1'15"404) just over six tenths behind the reference time established by Nico Rosberg. The resident of the stable Milton Keynes has the satisfaction of being ahead of his teammate Sebastian Vettel, even if the latter did not have the SREC during the second session, and will be able to hope to start in the first places on the starting grid even if the competition will be tough this year.
“I think we can never be too electric on Thursdays and this day was actually one of the best in recent years.”, recognized Mark Webber. “You have to stay focused all the time, as the level is very demanding. The challenge is great on this circuit to make everything work. We want to perform just as well on the short stints as on the long ones and I think we are capable of it. There are competitive cars here, we saw that on Saturday during the last Grands Prix (with Mercedes who has taken pole in the last three races). In any case, this day went well for us and we still have a long way to go. »
