Wehrlein: 'Williams is my only option'

Pascal Wehrlein confided in the paddock of the Brazilian GP in Sao Paulo that his only hope of remaining in F1 next year was based on the choices made by Williams. The Grove team must indeed find a replacement for Felipe Massa who will retire at the end of the year. The 2015 champion of DTM is in the list of replacements mentioned which notably includes Robert Kubica.

“I’m trying to sign for Williams next year. I would say that Williams is my only option for 2018. It's complicated to take a year away from F1 for a season and then try to come back.", admitted Pascal Wehrlein.

It is therefore more than ever the moment to shine for Pascal Wehrlein with two Grands Prix remaining at the end of the season while Sauber F1 Team is in last place in the Manufacturers' Championship with only five points won.

“We changed several elements because I had a lot of problems with the car, particularly with the balance of the car and oversteer, explained the 23-year-old German. The suspensions have, for example, been modified. Marcus (Ericsson) and I had similar settings for a good part of the season and now we have different specificities. We are getting closer to the middle of the pack and we plan to finish on a good note. »

“It would be great to have a good race now. The weather will be able to help us. I was very satisfied with my first part of the season where I quickly found my rhythm after my injury. The year subsequently became more complicated and the gap over our opponents grew. I hope to experience a race similar to last year. I had a great weekend there, playing in the points for a while. The weather is expected to remain dry this Sunday », specified Pascal Wehrlein.
