Whitmarsh has confidence in his champions

Martin Whitmarsh is optimistic. Despite the rivalries that have made the history of McLaren, with the duels Cheers-Senna from the early 90s and Alonso-Hamilton in 2007, the team manager of the Woking team thinks he will be able to manage the ambitions of his two world champions, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton.

« We are confident that we can manage and meet the expectations of our pilots, confided Martin Whitmarsh, quoted by The Independent. Lewis and Jenson are both world champions, they know what it takes to win, and I'm sure they will both be very motivated to encourage each other to achieve further results. best. It is my job to exploit their competitiveness in a positive way for the greater good of the team. »

Two world champions within the same team, however, this is an unusual situation that McLaren will have to manage. “ It’s a situation that some teams might find dangerous, but one that we absolutely relish – it’s a very enjoyable problem! We have two very competitive people, who understand the benefits of working as a team. My job is to manage their driver instincts: they are there to compete against each other – and the only instruction they will receive from me is to respect each other on the track. But that's all ! Then, they remain free on the track. »
