McLaren no longer really has any hopes for the current season. The British team abandoned the development of the MP4-28 to concentrate on the 2014 season, its chances for the title being nil after a catastrophic start to the season. Her streak of 64 consecutive points finishes ended at the Canadian Grand Prix and she also failed to secure a top ten at Silverstone. The Nürburgring ended the drought with Jenson Button's sixth place and Sergio Pérez's eighth.
This latest result is positive for McLaren even if the British team is still far from the mark. “I'm not going to do a handstand or anything like that. We are still not where we should be, but we are at least moving in the right direction,” Martin Whirmarsh told the Press Association. “After a record 64 races in the points, our two races without registering the slightest point affected our morale a little. We have made slight progress, but we are frankly not where we should be. We have limited resources as we have focused heavily on next year. However, as competitors, we will not give up. We will do our best while still trying to improve in the rest of the year. »
