Qualifying was frustrating for the team Williams. Easily out of Q1, George Russell and Nicholas latifi certainly had the pace to get to Q3. But both drivers ended up in the gravel trap.

4 minutes from the end of the session, George Russell made a mistake in the penultimate corner of the circuit. The Englishman can leave but will not take part in the rest of the session: “ I attacked too much, he regretted. My time was just enough to get into the top 10. I was above the limit but I had to be on the attack in the last turns, I was a little too much ».

In his last lap of Q2, Nicholas Latifi also made a mistake. The Canadian lost control of his car entering turn 8, before violently hitting the tire wall. “ My only set of new tires for Q2, I used them during the first red flag. So I had tires that were already used, I had nothing to lose in trying to get to Q3. » However, the accident he suffered could put him back on the grid: “ I'd be surprised not to take a gearbox change penalty, with the impact I had. I feel sorry for the team, I will give them a lot of work. »

For the moment, no sanction has been imposed on the Canadian. The Williams drivers will still have a good card to play in the race, notably George Russell, 11th, close to the points.
