There is not only Mercedes who intends to arrive with improvements on the car. The stable Williams, last in the Manufacturers ranking with only three points, has just announced new features on the FW44. But before applying these developments to the two cars, the British team still wants to carry out final evaluations. Alexander albon will therefore be the only driver to benefit from it at Silverstone.

« We have an updated aero package for this weekend, which will be applied only to Alex's car to monitor its behavior and confirm that it is running as intended ", explains Dave Robson, Williams' director of vehicle performance. The British team has focused its work on two specific aspects of the FW44. “ The body and floor form the basis of the improvement and are intended to effectively increase the car's downforce », explains Dave Robson.

No points for Williams for 4 Grands Prix

It must be said that improvements are starting to be expected within the British team. For 4 Grands Prix, Williams has not scored a single point. It was in Baku that Alexander Albon came closest to bringing a new unit to the scoreboard with his 12th position. This season, the Thai driver was the only one able to offer points to his team twice. After 2 Grands Prix, the Grove-based team is already 9 and 12 lengths behind Haas et Aston Martin.

Before aiming for a top 10, Alexander Albon will certainly need time to get used to the new behavior of his car. “ We are looking forward to our home race and understanding the new parts. They are likely to change the balance and handling of the car and it may take time to adapt and allow drivers to get the most out of them », specifies Dave Robson.

Williams is counting on the consistency of Alexander Albon to gather as much information as possible during this race weekend. Nicholas latifi will certainly have to wait another week (Austrian Grand Prix, July 8-10) to try the FW44 improvements. Unless the sprint event, which will modify the weekend's program, changes Williams' plans. The British team could then postpone the arrival of the new features on the second car until the French Grand Prix.
