Williams confirms Latifi alongside Russell in 2020

This is news that will surprise no one. the stable of Whole grained announced the tenure of its reservist Nicholas latifi to support George Russell next year.

After taking part in 6 Free Practice 1 sessions under the Williams colors, the Toronto native, whose billionaire father Michael Latifi is a 10% shareholder of the Group McLaren, will make its Grand Prix debut in 2020.

Currently 2th in the championship Formula 2, Latifi, 24 years old, does not yet technically have the 40 points necessary to obtain the Super License but the DAMS driver is already assured of finishing the 2019 campaign in the Top 5 of the official antechamber of there F1 and will thus pocket the units it lacks.

« Nicholas has not failed to impress us in F2 this season, commented Claire Williams, deputy team principal of the eponymous team. His determination and commitment to the team this season has not gone unnoticed either. Nicholas has already established himself as an established and respected member of the team. We look forward to seeing him take on his new role and help us get back to mid-grid ».

An open secret, Latifi's tenure is accompanied by tidy financial compensation for a Williams team which is coming out of a pair of very complicated seasons, marked by frankly missed single-seaters and major failures in the internal organization. After Lance stroll, Sergey Sirotkin, and to a certain extent Kubica, Grove is therefore once again calling on a paid pilot.

After four and a half seasons in GP2 Series/F2, Latifi has 6 victories and 20 podiums to his name.
