Williams: “It is vital for us that racing resumes this year”

The absence of competition linked to the coronavirus places certain teams F1 in a delicate financial situation. The lack of activities and the fear of losing the season's dividends raise doubts about the sustainability of certain structures. Among them, Williams appears to be one of the most in difficulty.

Grove team principal Claire Williams admitted her team needed to get back into action this year.

“We obviously have to wait until it’s safe for us. F1 is facing an extremely tough environment at the moment, she told Sky Sport News. We talked a lot about when the competition could resume. We are one of the only completely independent structures. It is vital for us that racing resumes this year. »

“Racing and the financial rewards associated with our position in the Manufacturers' standings are really important to our business. It will be very difficult to get by if we don't have any races this year, recognized Claire Williams. However, we cannot resume until it is safe for our teams. I heard rumors about the season starting in July. If so, I know Williams will be there. »

F1 has already taken important steps by pushing back the new technical regulations to 2022 and introducing a budget limit of 175 million pounds per team (around 199 million euros) for next year. This ceiling could even be lowered to 100 million pounds (around 114 million euros).
