Williams: Second place is an ambitious goal

After finishing third the last two seasons, Williams will seek to stay at the forefront with the FW38 entrusted to Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas. Pat Symonds, the technical director of the Grove team, would like to see his team progress even further in the hierarchy even if the return to favor of the Team Ferrari will make this goal complicated.

“Why don’t we aim for second place? Our realistic goal is to stay in contention for podiums because that means fighting for the top three positions and that seems within our reach.”, commented the engineer on the official F1 website. “I must also recognize that it remains quite ambitious and we can already be proud if we maintain third place. This is a great result whatever the year. »

If Williams' third place acquired in 2015 can be explained by the bad season of Red Bull Racing et McLaren-Honda, Pat Symonds doesn't care. “It’s not very fair to say that. It is established that the results correspond not only to our performances but also to those of our opponents”, underlined the Briton. “McLaren had the same Power Unit (Mercedes) in 2014 and we beat them consistently. Our third place cannot be explained solely by Honda's problems and Renault."
