Williams fears new Red Bull Ring surface

Williams Racing has a history of achieving strong results at the Austrian Grand Prix. The British team has placed a car on the podium each time since the return of Red Bull Ring on the calendar F1 in 2014.

“We are in a phase where we encounter high-speed circuits like the one in Austria. This corresponds well to the characteristics of the FW38 and the Power Unit of Mercedes, underlined Pat Symonds, the technical director. This track has been successful for us in the past and we have every reason to believe that it will be the case again this year. »

If the Grove structure remains confident, the resurfacing of the track raises questions while Pirelli has opted for the softest tires in its range.

“However, we will have some differences for our third visit with the hybrid single-seaters, continues the Briton. The first difference concerns the weather, with the forecast announcing that Sunday could be the only day contested in the dry. But the most significant could be the resurfacing of the track. The stables of the F3 who rode here indicated that it was more abrasive on the tires, which makes the prospect of a race in the dry even more complicated to manage if the tests are done in the wet. Despite everything, we think we can make two stops in the race and I am sure that the team will be able to pick up a lot of points. »
