Wolff denies rumor of a deposit at Mercedes

Here, the Italian Grand Prix was largely played out on Nico Rosberg's mistake at the Rettifilo chicane on the 29th lap. Having made a mistake for the second time during the first braking, the German, who had led the race until then, saw his British teammate Lewis Hamilton take back control of the race to race towards his sixth success in 2014 and return to 22 points in the championship. But this mistake by Rosberg sowed doubt in the paddock, with some seeing it as compensation for the events at Spa during the last Grand Prix, where Rosberg had harpooned Hamilton.

“Only a paranoid mind could come up with such an idea, proclaims the boss of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport. You mean we told him to miss braking, go through the chicane in the run-off and let Lewis take the lead? No, they are fighting for the world drivers' championship. He was under pressure and Lewis just wanted to come back. He was under pressure and that's why it happened. On the other hand, it is rare and strange for there to be the same error twice in the same place. This is unusual for Nico. He rarely makes mistakes. »

Lewis Hamilton, for his part, overrode the instructions of his engineer, who had asked him to slow down the pace after his tire change, to put pressure on Rosberg. A decision which appears justified today, the World Champion having achieved his second success yesterday on Italian soil. Mercedes bosses were keen to congratulate their drivers after the finish, notably Niki Lauda, non-executive chairman of Mercedes.
