Wolff: “We still have work to do in Sao Paulo”

Mercedes no longer has to worry about the Drivers title acquired by Lewis Hamilton at the end of the Mexican GP on October 28, two races before the end of the season. If the main objective is fulfilled for the star manufacturer, it still remains to ensure the coronation among the Manufacturers against the Team Ferrari which is 55 lengths behind.

“It was a little bittersweet in Mexico, entrusts Toto wolff, the executive director of Mercedes Motorsport. On the one hand, we are all very happy for Lewis. He is the best driver of his generation and his 5th title has elevated him to one of the greatest in the discipline. On the other hand, we couldn't be satisfied with our performance in Mexico. Qualifying was promising, but we realized after just a few laps that we were struggling with the tires. We investigated this issue immediately after the race. This was important before going to Brazil. »

Mercedes hopes to end the season with a new title even if the Silver Arrows team has not won since the Japanese GP at Suzuka last October.

“Our goal was to win both championships, not just one, and we still have work to do in Sao Paulo, underlines the Austrian. The fight remains on for the Manufacturers' title and we have lost part of our lead against Ferrari in recent weekends even though we had the potential to do better. It is in these moments that we must stay focused. »

Mercedes' last victory on the Interlagos circuit dates back to 2016. The German team scored a double with the victory of Lewis Hamilton ahead of Nico Rosberg.
