Wolff castigates “lies” and “hidden intentions” in the Ocon impasse

Toto wolff is starting to get slightly hot from hearing that Mercedes could not find a steering wheel Esteban Ocon, a member of the star industry since 2015, for next season.

The Frenchman will not be F1 next year, forced to give way to Lance stroll at Force India following the purchase of the Silverstone team by the father of the Canadian Lawrence.

At the end of July, Ocon nevertheless had two contracts on the table, one for McLaren and one at Renault. But the choice of Daniel Ricciardo to leave Red Bull for the French manufacturer has completely shaken up the situation, while Woking has formalized Carlos Sainz et Lando Norris since.

« What we do with our young driver programs, like our rivals elsewhere, is aimed at bringing the best talent to the highest level, those who can win championships and deserve to be here, Wolff declared on the microphone of Sky Sports F1 in Singapore.

What happened in July-August is simply incredible. There was so much politics in the background, so many hidden agendas, so many lies, and in the end we end up with good guys who don't have a steering wheel, and Esteban will probably be one of them unfortunately.

But we'll take care of him. He is one of the future stars of F1, I am 100% convinced of that. He has had tough times in his career before and will overcome this one too. If some prefer to compromise their performance by not taking the best drivers, that's their problem  ».

If the support of Mercedes allowed Ocon to access the premier category, it paradoxically proves to be handicapping today since the opposing manufacturers refuse to take into their fold a driver with a combination bearing the star.

However, Wolff is absolutely not ready to let go of the 21-year-old Norman. “ One day he will be in a Mercedes and winning races and championships, and thus showing that others made a mistake » said the boss of the Silver Arrows in conclusion.
