Wolff: “It’s impossible to predict the outcome” of the championship

In the lead with a small point ahead of Ferrari in the Manufacturers' standings before the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Mercedes is certainly no longer in a position to dominate the Formula 1. Major player in four consecutive crowns between 2014 and 2017, Toto Wolff understands that the quest for a fifth title will require more rigor and involvement than ever.

“Last year we were involved in quite a fight with Ferrari, recalls the Executive Director of the firm to the Star. But that’s nothing compared to the intensity of this season. Ferraris and Red Bull will do everything possible to beat us. Their car, their drivers, their staff, everyone works at a very high level and will continue to put a lot of pressure on us. »

An intensity which is not likely to disturb the German. “We love this kind of challenge. Each member of the team joined Mercedes precisely to (live) these kinds of moments. The smallest detail will count and it is impossible to predict the outcome (from the championship). »

The boss of Mercedes expects to see this redistribution of the cards favorably. « The 2018 season has what it takes to be an embodiment of everything we love about motorsport. We experienced some exciting races marked by incredible overtakes. The single-seaters are the fastest in F1 history, and we have some of the best drivers the sport has ever seen.", ensures Toto wolff.
