6 points in two races. This is the abnormally sad assessment of Mercedes after Monaco and Baku. If the German team was sometimes unlucky, as with the endless pit stop for Bottas in the Principality, this low points ratio also coincides with a pace below what we knew.

At the end of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, it is a Toto wolff angry who addressed the media: " It hurts ! We were in the process of achieving a great success after the accident of Verstappen. But right now, it's just emotion, frustration. I won't even be able to tell you if a third place would have satisfied me or not.. deplores Toto Wolff

“In Monaco and here, we didn't have a competitive car, period. We have concerns about tire temperatures. We know the deficit and we know that we have to reduce the gap with the best teams. But I don't worry, we have a strong team that has the will to win. We will soon be back at the forefront.”

In a race marked by tire explosions Stroll and Verstappen, Hamilton had the perfect opportunity to regain the lead in the championship. Unfortunately for the English driver, a bad maneuver on the steering wheel during the second start caused him to shoot straight into the first corner. He will finish the race dead last: “It’s a result that will humble us. I'm so sorry for the team", Hamilton confesses.

“We had done a monstrous job to be in the position we were in. After Friday when we were out of the top 10, the team worked hard to get back in front. When Perez pulled in front of me at the restart, I involuntarily pressed a button on the steering wheel which deactivated the rear brakes. I only had the front brakes so I went straight at the first turn.”

Hamilton was also on a streak of 54 consecutive races in the points. If the gaps remain the same between the first two in the drivers' championship, Red Bull is now 26 points ahead of the German team.
