Wolff: Mercedes team and supply are two separate things

The association worked devilishly well between 1995 and 2014, with the Manufacturers' title in 1998, but also the Drivers' crowns for Mika Häkkinen in 1998 and 1999, or even Lewis Hamilton in 2008.

McLaren et Mercedes will relaunch one of the legendary duos of the F1 from 2021, the year of the change in technical regulations, eagerly awaited by the entire microcosm of F1.

A decision by the German firm, overwhelmingly dominant since the advent of the hybrid era in 2014, behind which we should not see any clues about the future according to Toto wolff, boss of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport and Team Principal of Mercedes-AMG F1.

Motor supply to customers is a different subject and an independent decision. »

“Since the introduction of the hybrid regulations in 2014, a cornerstone of our strategic approach has been to lead the development of the Power Unit with our official team and deliver a reference product to our customers, recalls Andy Cowell, head of Mercedes' HPP engine division.

We are therefore delighted to expand our list of partners, especially with a historic brand like McLaren. There is a shared history between the two organizations and we look forward to succeeding together again in the future. »
