Wolff: Mercedes lost too many points through its mistakes

Si Mercedes F1 remains the team to beat this year, the star-studded team is however undermined by the Team Ferrari. The Prancing Horse is 20 points ahead of its German rival while Sebastian Vettel leads the Championship with eight points ahead of Lewis Hamilton.

The Briton had the opportunity to regain control of the Drivers' classification at the British GP held on July 8, but a bad start and contact with Kimi Raïkkönen condemned him to fight for the places of honor.

“We didn't score as many points as we hoped during the triple-header, recognizes the executive director of Mercedes Motorsport Toto wolff. These losses largely come from our mistakes. However, there remains a glimmer of hope as we have brought the fastest car to the last three events. »

Mercedes will have the opportunity to regain the advantage this weekend by competing in its national Grand Prix at Hockenheim, where Lewis Hamilton won in the last edition in 2016.

“Hockenheim will mark the halfway point of the season. We have had a decent first part of the year, even if we left points along the way and we limited the damage more often than we would have liked., insists the Austrian. On the other hand, we still scored quite a few points, our two drivers performed well and we have a fast car. We have good reason to look forward to the second part of this season. We are ambitious and want to get off to a good start after the break. »

Mercedes has not won since the French GP won on June 24 by Lewis Hamilton.
