Wolff: “An essential problem to solve”

The Mercedes de Lewis Hamilton et Valtteri Bottas were behind in testing for the Malaysian GP as the W08s finished just outside the top five in the FP2 standings. The star-studded team was in difficulty, particularly with the Briton and the Finn going off the track into the gravel trap.

“We were in trouble from the start, whether in the wet or the dry, on all types of tires, said Toto wolff on Sky Sports. We need to find the source of the problem. The car was poorly balanced and was sliding in all areas, the front and rear tires were overheating and we couldn't get anything out of it. There's a devil in the car. »

The executive chairman of Mercedes Motorsport obviously hopes that his team will find the origin of the problem in order to improve the performance of the Silver Arrows.

“You can kind of compare Malaysia to Silverstone (Great Britain) where we were very good. We are very good at high speeds, but that is not the case here. There is a fundamental problem to be resolved. These cars are very complex and this can be a very slight detail”, added Toto Wolff.

Mercedes could only achieve a podium last year in Kuala Lumpur with a third place taken by Nico Rosberg.
