The Grand Prix Drivers’ Association has published an open letter to the attention of the shareholders of the F1 in order to make them aware of the mismanagement of the discipline that could compromise its future.
Rule changes, such as the new qualifications format heavily criticized, were the trigger for this letter in which the drivers hope that a new direction will be taken in order to ensure the sustainability of F1.
“(The institutions in F1) must be purely and simply restructured.”, explained Alex Wurz, president of the GPDA, to AUTOhebdo. “It is no longer time to put in patches, but to prepare for the medium and long term future of F1, and by extension of motorsport as a whole. If we do not keep the interest of the fans, we will fall out of the sights of the sponsors, the manufacturers, and we will not be able to maintain the sport at the level it is currently at. The risk is to become a second-rate sport..."
