Yuki Tsunoda carries AlphaTauri on his shoulders

His main team Franz Tost challenged him to gain ground after the departure of Pierre Gasly byAlpha Tauri for Alpine. After 4 Grands Prix in 2023, Yuki tsunoda is taking up the challenge.

After finishing on the points gate in Bahrain then Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), the Japanese, who is experiencing his 3rd campaign under the colors of Faenza (Italy), snatched 10th place in the Australian GP. Before doing it again in Baku at the end of a well-run weekend, despite a very complicated Sprint day.

The Japanese driver was invited to Q3 on Friday evening, securing a good 8th place on the grid for the Sunday GP. The next day, however, he stopped in Q1 during the Shootout, before hitting a wall during the Sprint following an unfortunate contact with his teammate Nyck de Vries.

Known for his mood swings and unforced errors over the past two years, Tsunoda is proving his detractors lying in 2023. On Sunday, he maximized the performance of his AT04, made no mistakes and won a new point.

An important result for a team which is having a complicated start to the season, especially since its new teammate is struggling at the moment.

« We didn't have many opportunities to do long runs this weekend, but we had a solid pace and were able to build on this performance. ", commented Tsunoda.

A performance praised by his boss, who will leave his position at the end of the 2023 season : " Yuki did a fantastic job, declared the Austrian. He managed to separate the duo from McLaren, approaching Norris and widening the gap with Piastres. »

Tsunoda is really establishing himself as leader of the small squadra this season.
