Zak Brown: “Years away” from fighting for the title

McLaren will face their home event this weekend in a particular context. The English structure has confirmed the end of its collaboration with its previous competition director Eric Boullier, with Gil de Ferran becoming the new sporting director.

An upheaval of the lines behind the scenes which occurs in the wake of a still mixed start to the season for McLaren. If the Woking team replaced the Honda engine block with the Renault in the off-season, the results which improved at the start of the campaign have been tarnished in recent weeks with several finishes outside the points, or even retirements.

Enough to make Zak Brown, executive director of McLaren, say that the fight for a possible title remains far away today. “Yes realistically, replies the American, interviewed on the website of the F1 on the supposed wait to resume the fight for the first places.

It's going to take time to resolve everything. I think we're years away from that. I don't know if it's two or ten, or somewhere in between. Probably more in between, but I don't want to get into predictions.

I have to be very realistic and honest with yourself, with our fans, with you, to say that it's going to be a long road. I think everyone needs to recognize that. »

McLaren is currently in sixth place in the Manufacturers' championship, and remains the worst team powered by the Renault turbo/hybrid V6. It also remains to be known the future of Fernando Alonso, its leading driver, whose contract with Woking is due to end at the end of the season.
