Zak Brown: F1 must develop in the USA

The redemption of the F1 by Liberty Media could open up new perspectives for the discipline. If the new buyers have notably mentioned digital platforms as a development project, the calendar could also (further) expand with more races on the American continent.

Zak Brown, the new executive director of McLaren, is enthusiastic at the idea of finally seeing F1 break through in the United States which currently has a meeting with Austin (Texas) after the New York project failed. However, the organizers of the American event are having difficulty sustaining the event.

“We are a World Championship. If we continue to evolve in emerging markets, which is a very good thing, North America remains the largest market in terms of sports, underlined Zak Brown, quoted on Fox Sports. We have great prospects for evolving there. Although we must continue to explore new territories, we must strengthen our presence in North America. There are so many people there, so much TV, so much economic power... F1 can become very important there. »

McLaren's new strongman would be all the more favorable to the development of F1 in the USA as the Woking manufacturer seeks to strengthen its presence in North America.

“We need another race in the USA. Austin did an incredible job, the presence of Haas is fantastic and it would be great to one day have an American driver on the front row of a Grand Prix. The fact that Liberty knows the American market so well is an undeniable plus”, he added.

If the 2017 season calendar includes 20 Grands Prix, the teams had expressed their fears of seeing the number of events increase, in particular due to an increase in budgets and personnel.
