Completing two races on the same circuit allows teams to give young drivers a chance to race. If Alfa Romeo will roll Callum Ilott in place of Antonio Giovinazzi, Alpine just announced that Guanyu Zhou will make his debut in F1 this Friday.

Currently leading the championship Formula 2, Zhou will take the place of Fernando Alonso during FP1 on Friday morning. This is the second Chinese driver in history to take part in an official session. Ma Quinghua had in fact participated in five free practice sessions between 2012 and 2013. It was then with teams at the end of the peloton, namely HRT and Caterham.

“Competing in FP1 of a Formula 1 Grand Prix is a dream come true and one step closer to my ultimate goal as an F1 driver, says Zhou. It will be really special. I will prepare as much as possible while ensuring that I achieve all the goals and plans set by the team. »

Note that Guanyu Zhou had already completed laps at the wheel of a 1 F2018, it was on the Silverstone circuit.
