20 cars entered in WTCC for 2016

The 2016 WTCC season is expected to feature 20 cars on its starting grids. The organizers of the World Touring Car Championship have published the entry list.

Citroën will field five C-Elysée WTCCs, three of which will be in the colors of the Sébastien satellite team Loeb Racing. Honda will be present with six Civic WTCCs, with three from the official JAS Motorsport team and three privateers. John Bryant-Meisner will be with Nika Racing (subject to FIA approval) and Zengo Motorsport will field two models where drivers are yet to be confirmed.

Volvo will make its debut with two S60s entrusted to Thed Björk and Fredrik Ekblom. The three Lada Vestas are confirmed for Hugo Valente, Nikcy Catsburg and Gabriele Tarquini. Chevrolet will also be there with four Cruzes entrusted to Roal Motorsport which will remain with Tom Coronel, to Campos Racing with John Filippi and a second driver, to All-Inkl.com Motorsport with René Münnich.

“It is good news to maintain a field of 20 cars in a difficult economic context. It’s also exciting to see new drivers arriving,” commented François Ribeiro, director of Eurosport Events.

The 2016 WTCC season will begin on the weekend of April 3 at Paul-Ricard (Var).
