Aragon, C2 – First success for Cupra thanks to Azcona, Vernay abandons
The air of the country inspired him. Navarrese Mikel Azcona (Cupra) properly celebrated the return of the World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) to Spain by winning Race 2 on Sunday 1 November.
The 2018 TCR Europe champion also offers the new Cupra TCR its first victory in the discipline. The wearer of the number 96 (like his year of birth) did not experience any adventures throughout the 10 rounds of this round.
Two Lynk & Co complete the podium, those of Yvan Muller and Santiago Urrutia, who is having his best weekend in WTCR with already two top 3s this All Saints' Day. Frenchman Nathanaël Berthon (Audi) finished fourth.
Winner of Race 1 early in the morning, Jean-Karl Vernay (Alfa Romeo) fell from a height. From the second lap, his Giulietta slowed down until it returned to the pits. The Frenchman had a bad operation in the championship and fell to fourth place, behind Yvan Muller.
The leader of the general classification, Yann Ehrlacher (Lynk & Co, 7th) increases his lead over Esteban Guerrieri (Honda). The Argentinian only finished 10th and was 30 points behind with four races remaining.
