However, it was his teammate Broc Feeney (Triple EIght) who won once again this season, thus offering a 7th double to the Brisbane team. But Will Brown, by moving up the race rankings, managed to seal the championship with one race left in the season. However, the Triple Eight drivers did not have the advantage at the start of the round since it was a duo of Ford Mustangs who occupied the first places on the starting grid. Cameron Waters, once again on pole, ahead of his Tickford Racing teammate: Thomas Randle. In 3rd position on the starting grid, Broc Feeney had done the job to get ahead of Brown 5th in the Superpole.
At the start of the race, the Tickford drivers maintained the advantage, with only Feeney losing a place to Matt Payne (Whole grained Racing) who passed him from the first corners. It was then an extremely strategic race that took place. During the first round of pit stops, the Tickford drivers thought they had done the hardest part after dominating the first stint (Randle having got the better of Waters from the start), but that was without counting on the poker move attempted by the engineers and tacticians of Triple Eight Engineering. Broc Feeney took the lead of the race thanks to his shorter stop than his opponents (he only took on 12 seconds of fuel compared to 15 to 17 seconds for the other drivers).
Brown, a second hell of a stint
Will Brown was only 6th in the race at his first stop, but he remained in contact with the front of the race. When the competitors stopped once again, Brown set off again in 5th place. This was when the championship leader pulled out all the stops. With less than thirty laps to go, he overtook the other cars one by one. He managed to overtake Cam Waters with only 3 laps to go, and he climbed onto another podium (he had been on the gearbox at least once during every race weekend of the season). By finishing second and despite Feeney's victory, Brown brilliantly won the 2024 title: " I want to thank the team that allowed me to be so successful and consistent this season…. A big congratulations to Broc Feeney who pushed me to be stronger this year. I am really happy, I would like to go party tonight, but I will stay serious because we have one last important race tomorrow.»
